About the event
The theme this year is Harbor Town-Ontonagon Past and Present. Contestants can choose any medium of Gingerbread House, but all materials must be edible, non-perishable, see entry form for details. Houses can be made from scratch or a kit. Contestants are encouraged to use their imagination to produce a House that is unique and creative.
In the interest of building community, there is only a group category this year. We are excited to announce that so far, the OAS high school art class, the New Beginnings Group and the senior citizens sponsored by the Community Action Agency will be taking part this year. Home bakers or professional bakers are encouraged to work with a group of their choice (family, friends, neighbors, classmates, or social groups) in crafting a creation that just might end up being a gift or centerpiece for a holiday table.
The Houses can be dropped off on Friday, December 1 between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., and will be displayed in the OAC Gallery during a special open house at the Ontonagon Museum, Saturday, December 2nd, from 4 p.m.-6 p.m.
All houses must be completed prior to drop off, no construction onsite. All entries will be judged on Originality | Creativity and Overall appearance; Unique use of materials, difficulty of design and construction. Contestants can choose any medium of Gingerbread House, but it must
be constructed of all edible items
They will be judged for First, Second, Third place, Honorable Mention and the People’s Choice Award. The Hometown Christmas Tree trimming will be going on in RICC Park at 6:30 p.m. Please visit the free Museum open house and OAC Gallery to vote!
Winners will be announced during the Hometown Christmas Parade on Sunday, December 3, 5:30 p.m.
Entrants must submit their form by November 20, 2023, unless prior arrangements have been made.
The Collective will also serve concert goers refreshments during intermission at the Christmas Concert on Dec 1. They will be selling the OCAP Pet Calendar at the Craft Fair, being held at the OAS auditorium on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Collective was created to provide opportunities for artists, makers, and creators to highlight their talents. By providing facilities and resources to the local artists, the Collective’s goal is to grow public engagement, create constructive collaboration between businesses and strengthen community. We are stronger together.
